Morning bulletin (Rockhampton) 7 Jan 1941
DEATH OF MR D. S. G. MACDONALD
The death occurred with tragic suddenness at his home in William Street on Saturday last of Mr Donald Stuart Graham Macdonald, a well-esteemed resident of the city for many years, with a large circle of friends in the district and the Central West. He had just completed the mowing of his lawn and was about to water it when he collapsed and died almost Immediately. The sudden nature of his passing came as a great shock to his relatives and friends by reason of his never having previously suffered any serious illness and being possessed of a fine physique.

The late Mr Macdonald had been employed for approximately 25 years in the engineering branch of the Railway Department and was held in high regard both by departmental officials and fellow tradesmen. At the time of his death he was enjoying his annual leave, having returned to Rockhampton a few days previously from Minerva station, where he had visited his grandmother, Mrs E. S. Wills, to whom he was greatly attached. Mrs Wills, who is in her nineties, is associated with the pioneering history of Central Queensland. When a girl she was one of the few white people saved when nomadic blacks massacred settlers and their families at Nogoa homestead. Once a year Mr Macdonald never failed to pay his respects to this grand old lady.

His absorbing hobby was his garden to which he devoted all of his spare time.

The funeral, which left his home on Sunday afternoon, was attended by numerous railway employees and friends In the city and district. There were many beautiful floral tributes.

Deceased is survived by his widow, his mother (Mrs E. Macdonald, who resides at Townsville), and his sister (Mrs M. Jeffries. Townsville).
