STATION HAND KILLED
FRACTURED SPINE ROCKHAMPTON. October 25.
Whilst working at the bottom of a well at Glenorina Station, about 20 miles from Emerald, yesterday, Cyril Renton Wills. 50, a station hand, sustained a fracture of the spine and died a few minutes after being hauled to the surface.
Wills, with two other men, was well sinking for Mr. H. W. Wright. He was operating the bottom of the well when a bucket became disconnected and fell on him from a height of 35ft. One of his mates descended and found him lying with his head under water. As the men were unable to bring him to the surface one of them hastened to the homestead and phoned Mr. Kundell, of Glenora Downs, who, with Mr. F. S. Daniels, of Gindie, journeyed to the well by car. When Wills was brought to the sur face he was still alive, but expired in a few minutes. A Springsure ambulance conveyed the body to Emerald, where a post mortem disclosed that death was due to a badly fractured spine. Wills had been a resident of the district for 10 years. His relatives are not known.
