OBITUARY
SNADDEN.
It is with great regret that we record the death of Mr. James Snadden, who passed away on Saturday after noon last after an acute attack of influenza. Mr. Snadden was ill for only a week, and his death came as a great shock to his numerous friends, who held him in the highest esteem. Born in Albert-street, Footscray on July 25, 1858, he was the first male child registered in this district, where he spent practically all his days. As a young man he was a prominent athlete, and distinguished himself as an oarsman and cricketer. He took a keen interest in sport all through his life. He was the proprietor of a quarry, and a member of the Master Quarry men's Association. He was also a prominent and enthusiastic Freemason, having passed through the chairs of the Hope of Yarraville and Yarraville Mark Lodges. Mr. Snadden was twice married. By his first wife he had a family of four sons and one daughter. Of the boys three enlisted in the early days of the war, and were amongst the first to leave Australia. One son was killed in action. By his second wife, who survives him, he had a son and daughter. A man of upright character, he was a staunch friend, ever ready to give a helping hand to his fellow-man, and he will be greatly missed by his friends. The funeral, which left his home; 169 Buckley-street, for the Footscray Cemetery on Monday last, was very largely attended. The service at the graveside was conducted by Rev. J. H. Goble, and Mr. H. McAdam Rankin, Worshipful Master of the Hope of Yarraville Lodge, who lead the Masonic service.
