OBITUARY
FRANCIS HOEY.
A native of Mackay and one who
throughout his adult lifetime was
closely associated with the sugar
industry, Mr. Francis Hoey passed
away on April 21. For about two
years his health had not been
satisfactory. He was a cousin to
Mr. T. L. Hoey, of Shakespeare-
street, and other surviving rela
tives are brothers: Messrs. William
Hoey (New Zealand) and Thomas
J. Hoey (Sarina). Sisters are:
Mesdames W. Webber (The Lag
oons), W. Higgins (Sydney) and
T. Pearson (Nebo road). The late
Mr. Hoey served his apprenticeship
as a sugar boiler at North Eton
mill, and later took up a position
at Racecourse mill. After remain
ing at Racecourse for about 20
years his next post was at Marian
mill where he followed the same
occupation until about three years
ago. The last rites of the Catholic
Church were administered by Mgr;
Rowan, the pallbearers being
Messrs. T. M'Guire, W. Corby, R.
Pomeroy, F. Crowley, R. Barron
and J. Brown.
