Obituary.-The sudden death of Mr. George Creed, a noted early pioneer, grazier, and erstwhile public man, occurred at his station, Cecilwood, near Raglan, on May 4. During his lengthy residence in this district, extending over 50 years, the late Mr, Creed had given faithful service to the ratepayers of Calliope shire as one of the councillors of No. 1 division.

PIONEER PASSES
MR. G. A. CREED
It is indeed a saddening reflection for those of the old pioneers who are left to see how quickly their numbers are diminishing every year. One by one they pass away and there is hardly a link left to connect the past with the present.

Few of the younger generation, in these days of railways, post and telegraph services, telephone, motor cars, radio and ambulance, realise the difficulties of those who blazed the tracks and made life so much easier for those who followed. They cannot visualise the nearest neighbour 15 to 20 miles distant or that the only habitations between Rockhampton and Gladstone were Archer 15 mile cattle station, Raglan station, Langmorn, Mt Larcom, Lower Calliope and Stowe.

On May 4 last another link was snapped and broken and a pioneer passed to his rest when Mr George Albert Creed, of Cecilwood, answered the last call. He was the son of the late Mr Thomas Creed, of Langmorn, who came to Victoria in 1853, and was born in Brisbane in 1860. Had he lived another fortnight he would have celebrated his 64th birthday.

THE LATE MR G.A. CREED
The late Mr Creed was brought to Langmorn as a baby in arms at the end of 1869 and had resided in the district ever since. He was educated in Rockhampton and after being attached to the Department of Public Instruction for three years as a teacher, he returned to Langmorn and assisted in the management of that place. He also managed Cardbeign, in the Springsure district in 1906 and 1907.

When Langmorn was resumed he was fortunate in securing two blocks, on which he made his home, which he named "Cecilwood." He devoted all his time to improving it and his fine herd of Herefords, his aim being to make what was already good, even better. Though a very busy man, he found time to give faithful service to the district, as he was a member of the Calliope Shire Council from 1905 to 1930, being chairman from 1908 to 1911. A widow, six daughters and one son are left to mourn his death.

Mr Creed was a big man, not only in stature, but in character. His benefactions were many, but he was one whose right hand did not know what his left was doing and only the recipients knew of his favours. There will be very many in the district who will learn with regret of his death.
