PERSONAL.
Mr T. P. Adlam writes to the Sydney 'Daily Telegraph' as follows: 'Many of your readers will, I feel sure, be interested in perusing a copy of the record of the MacDonald family, well known In New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland. The MacDonalds, had all survived, would have, numbered 12. There are 10 of them now living, namely, George, age next birthday 89; Margaret 86, Alexander Cameron 84, Peter Fitzalan 82, Sara 80, John Graham 78, William 73, Jane 70, Charles Hugh 68, lsabella 66. A brother of the above died in 1838, and a sister in 1837, each only a few months old. Thus, there has been no death among this generation of the MacDonald family (10 in number) for 74 years. The father of the MacDonalds. Alexander Cameron, who was born in 1797, died In 1847, Sara Warby, the mother, born in 1806, passed away in 1893. Mr John Graham Mac Donald, of Brisbane, and one time of Townsvllle, who was the sixth of the twelve, is in the best of good health, and carries out the duties of his responsible office with a capacity and energy men many years his junior might well envy."' His son, Mr Wm. MacDonald is the well-known solicitor at Hughenden.

Buried - 9th May 1897 - at Toonpan
Informant - Martha Macdonald, wife, Woodstock

Account of Alexander's fatal accident.
from The Townsville Evening Star of 10th May 1897
It is with great regret we have to record a particularly distressing fatality which occurred at Woodstock railway station last Saturday. During the afternoon intelligence was received in Townsville that the Station Master at Woodstock, Mr A. C. McDonald had been killed. On arrival of the 5.30 p.m. particulars were obtained, proving the sad news only too true.
It would appear that the unfortunate official was crossing the buffer of the train and by some means fell between, and part of the train passed over his body. None of the officials, we are informed, actually saw the occurrence.
On Sunday arrangements for the funeral were made, and a special train was run from Townsville at 1 p.m., conveying the District Traffic Manager, Mr Minehan, District Superintendent, Inspector Doorey, Mr Mitchell and a large number of the Railway employees. On arrival at Woodstock the coffin was carried from the deceased’s late residence to the train by six of the station masters, and on arrival at Toonpan, where the interment took place, from the train to the place of burial. The service was conducted by the Rev. Mr Williams.
It was evident from the large concourse of district residents present that Mr McDonald was held in very high esteem. Very handsome wreaths were sent by the station masters, guards, engine drivers and firemen. The Railway Department loses by this deplorable accident one of the best officers on the Northern Railway, and his demise is deeply regretted by all his fellow employees. A son of Mr McDonald’s rode 90 miles, after receipt of a wire, arriving just in time to take a last look at his father. He left Dotswood at 11 p.m. on Saturday and arrived at Woodstock at 3 p.m. next day. The heartiest sympathy is felt for the bereaved widow and other members of the deceased’s family.

A Geelong message states that Mr George Macdonald, of Maude, celebrated his hundreth birthday yesterday. He has not lost a single tooth and smokes strong black tobacco. He was born in New South Wales.

Ancestry - MacDonald Family Tree - Newspaper cutting from Geelong Advertiser
The Macdonald family has severed its century old links with a farm at Maude.
But a plaque on the 299 hectare property called Glendarriwill will ensure the family's toil over the past 136 years will not be forgotten.
The property was sold at auction recently.
George Macdonald is believed to have bought the property for around 10 pounds per hetcare in 1852 and worked hard to ensure he got value for money.
The hard life of the early settler seemed to agree with him as he lived well into his 100th year.

see article for his father from which the following is taken-
A notable instance is Mr. G. MacDonald, who celebrated his hundredth birthday on January 3, at Lethbridge, Victoria. He was born in 1824, at Campbelltown, New South Wales, and is one of a family of ten children, all of whom reached advanced ages. Mr Macdonald claims to be the oldest Australian Native living. He at one time was engaged in pastoral pursuits, and during the forties was manager of Mr. S. Faithful's Brewarrina sheep station, on the Murrumbidgee River. In 1876 he purchased the Glendarriwell Estate from his brother, the late Mr. A. C. MacDonald. F.R.G.S., and has resided there ever since. Mr. MacDonald is in full possession of his faculties and until quite recently was able to transact all his business. He still has all his teeth." This fine old centenarian, however, was not destined to add to his years for he died on March 2?, 1924. During his earlier days George MacDonald, like most of the earlier settlers in Australia, did some exploring, as well as travelling overland with stock. For the 1st fifty years of his life he resided on his valuable Glendarriwell Estate, which is situated
near the township of Mandee, Victoria.
