OBITUARY
Mrs Christina Chisholm, who, after a prolonged illness, passed away at her home on Monday, was one of the earliest pioneers in the Coghill's Creek district. Born at Lochgelly, Fifeshire, Scotland, on the 4th of duly, 1847, she with her parents, emigrated to Australia, landing in Melbourne on the 10th March, 1861. Her parents settled on the Smeaton plains and it was while there that, at the age of 18 years, she met and married Mr Henry Chisholm. After marriage the young couple secured land and built their home at Coghill’s Creek, where they brought up a family of eight—two daughters, Maggie (Mrs W. Sharp, of Johannesburg, South Africa), and Helen (Mrs A. Clark, of Glenbrae), and six sons—David (Coghill’s Creek), William (Bungaree), Robert (Glen..ae), Arthur (Archie’s Creek), Andrew (Newlyn) and Charles (deceased),
On Tuesday the 18th inst. the funeral moved from the old home, where for the past 58 years Mrs Chisholm had lived and it was a lengthy cortege which followed to the local cemetery, where the interment- was made in the family vault-. The Rev. J. H. Halford of Learmonth, took the services, and in a few well-chosen words paid high tribute to the character and well spent, life of Mrs Chisholm. The casket was carried by four sons of the deceased, viz., David, William, John R., and Andrew Chisholm. Besides the sons the chief mourners at the cemetery were Messrs A. Clark (son- in-law), J. George, W. Roach, W. Dunstan and S. Peterkin (brothers-in-law). The pall-hearers were Messrs W Fraser. W. Cleaver. W. Rain, W.Tinkler. J. Clark. J. Barke, F.Parker .T. Fisher. A. Wilson and C.McKenzie. As well as-a large attendance of local friends, many journeyed a distance to attend the obsequies, which were carried out by Messrs F.W. Barnes and Son. of Ballarat.
