Note 8: see personal notes Sydney Morning Herald 17 June 1975 Australian Lions Clubs founder dies Mr William Richard Tresise, the founder of the Lions Clubs in Australia, died in Lismore on Sunday night. He was 67. Mr Tresise formed Australia's first Lions Club in Lismore in 1947 after a visit to the United States. The movement spread throughout Australia. In 1972 club members throughout Australia erected a fountain in Lismore to honour their founder and the movement's 25th anniversary. A former Mayor of Hawthorn, Melbourne, Mr Tresise founded a builders' supply business in Lismore before World War II. He served in the RAAF during the war. His funeral will take place in Lismore at 2 pm tomorrow. P22 DEATHS TRESISE, William R., M.B.E.— June 15, 1975, at Lennox Head, Lismore, N.S.W., William R. Tresise, M.B.E., dearly loved husband of Fonny. Always remembered by Lions throughout many countries of the world. Founder of Lions in Australia, Lismore, N.S.W., July 1, 1947. Funeral, St. Andrew's Church of England, Lismore, N.S.W., 2 p.m. Wednesday.
