MR. ERNEST RICHARD WEISKE. The sympathy of a large circle of friends in North Queensland has been extended to the relatives of the late Mr. Ernest Richard Weiske, whose death occurred at Hughenden onThursday last at the age of 53 years. Mr. Weiske was a native of Mackay, and first entered the employ of the Railway Department at Ipswich, where he served his apprenticeship. From there he was transferred back to the Mackay workshop and for a number of years remained on the local staff. Whilst here he gained the esteem of all his fellow employees for his generosity and helpfulness on all occasions, whilst in private life his large circle of friends bore eloquent testimony to the esteem in which he was held. He took a prominent part in the affairs of the A.E.U., and for many years filled the post of secretary. Six years age he was transferred to Townsville where he assumed the position of loco foreman. After four years service further promotion came, and he was transferred to a similar position at Hughenden, where he was stationed up to the time of his death. Whilst there he gained the esteem of a large section of the residents who gave ample testimony of their feelings at the funeral cortege from the church to the railway station on the morning the body left that town for Mackay. The funeral here on Sunday last was largely attended by Mr. Weiske's former workmates in the Railway Department and the general public, The last sad rites were per formed by Righ Rev. Monsignor Mulcahy, assisted by Rev. Father Roche. Deceased is survived by his wife, and adopted daughter (Mrs. Hides, of Atherton), two brothers, Messrs. C. Weiske (Mackay), and P.Weiske (Bundaberg); and two sisters, Mes- dames Sampson (Brisbane) and Laurent (Tully). Another brother, Mr. W. A. Welske, predeceased him by three weeks. |
