CORBEN.—On the 23rd inst., accidentally shot at Egans- town, near Daylesford, Isaac Ernest, the youngest dearly beloved son of Isaac and Elizabeth Corben, aged 13 years 6 months. Leader (Melbourne) 2 Jan 1886 SHOCKING GUN ACCIDENT. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] DAYLESFORD, FRIDAY. The Christmas holidays have been somewhat marred by a sad and fatal accident which hap- pened last evening at Eganstown, about four miles south of Daylesford. From what I can learn, it appears that a lad 14 years of age, named Ernest Isaac Corben, son of Mr. Corben. of the firm of Wilson, Corben and Co., monumental masons, of Melbourne, was on a visit with his parents to Eganstown, and yes- terday he went out shooting with two young men named Vanderbilt and Morganti. A hare was started, and Vanderbilt was in the act of firing when the unfortunate lad crossed over in front of the muzzle of the gun, and received the contents of the barrel between his two eyes, completely blowing away his brains. Death, of course, was instantaneous. No blame is at- tributable to anyone, the affair being purely accidental. Much sympathy is felt for the parents who have thus been so sadly be- reaved. |
