Note 3: Reg No 1939/C1277 - parents George James Boulter and Kate Hughes Bowen Independent 26 June 1939 Obituary. EDGAR HERBERT SIMSON BOULTER. One of Bowen’s best-known business men in the person of Mr. Edgar Herbert Simson Boulter, passed away at the Kennedy Hospital on Wednesday morning last, after a sudden and fatal attack of pneumonia. His passing came as a distinct shock to his many friends, for he had appeared in the best of health a few days previously, and had participated in a fishing trip at the weekend. Deceased was born at Bowen in 1879, being sixth of the eight sons of the late G. J. Boulter. He learnt his trade as a saddler in Townsville, and commenced business in Bowen in 1903, being still in that occupation at the time of his death. He was a quiet and friendly type of man, who did not take, any part in public life, but made himself greatly liked by all with whom he came in contact. He was for many years a prominent member of the Bowen Rifle Club, and a foundation member of the Bowen Bowling Club, being a very enthusiastic bowler. Deceased was also well-known in lodge circles, being to the fore in both the Druids and Masonic Lodges. He is survived by four brothers, Watty and Jim (Sydney), Clem (Innisfail), Vic (Townsville) and two sisters, Mesdames Collinson and Sheen (Cairns), and by his wife and two sons, Les and Ron. Deepest sympathy was extended to them in their sudden loss. The esteem in which the deceased was held was illustrated by the attendance at the funeral, which was one of the largest seen in Bowen. The cortege left the Masonic Temple at 4.30 p.m. on Wednesday, Mr. Harris performing the Church of England rites, and Rev. Asboe the Masonic service. Fellow Masons formed a guard of honour at the cemetery gates.
