HEARN - On the 19th May, at her residence, Jessa-
mine, Brunswick, Louisa, relict of the late James Hearn,
of Thorn-grove, in her 78th year. Colonist of 49 years.

A very old colonist, and a member
of one of the best-known families in
Australia-Mrs Louisa Hearn- died
at her residence, at Brunswick, on
Monday. , Mrs Hearn was a sister of
the late Mr W. J. T. Clarke (father of
Sir V. J. Clarke), and she had lived in
this colony for 40 years,She was one of
a small band of women who, early in
the forties, accompanied their pioneer.

the hardships and the dangers which
were the lot of those who founded
colonies in a country so remote from
civilisation as Australia then was.
Mrs Hearn, who was one of the last
of these ladies, had reached the ripe
age of 78 years. She left a family of
four sons and four daughters, several
of the sons being well-known among
pastoralists. Her husband, the late
Mr James Hearn, of Thorngrove, died
many years ago.
