OBITUARY
MR. THOMAS OLIVER.
"An Old Friend" writes: — The death
occurred at the Gorge, Finch Hatton,
on Wednesday evening, June 19, of
Mr. Thomas Oliver, who collapsed at
his residence whilst reading the paper
after tea on the day mentioned.
Deceased, who was 74 years ot age,
was a native of Running Stream
(N.S.W.). He arrived in Mackay with
his wife and young family in 1910,
and took up land in the Gorge, Finch
Hatton, where he resided until his
death. He was a very highly esteemed
and successful farmer, always ready
to lend a helping hand to those in
need of assistance or advice. Of a
retiring disposition, the late Mr. Oliver
was loved and respected by the whole
community.
His wife predeceased him
23 years ago, and he was left to rear
a large family of five daughters and
four sons, to whom the sympathy of
this community is extended. The
daughters are:
Mesdames Shew(Garget),
Comerford (Finch Hatton),
Curran (Mackay),
Nielsen (Nebo),
andMiss Nellie, who resided with her
father till his death.
The sons are:
Steve (Trueman),
George,
Dave, and
Jim (The Gorge).
The last-named
has answered his country's call and
is leaving for camp in a few days. The
late Mr. Oliver could be truly described
as one of Nature's gentlemen.
