PERSONAL
The passing of Mr. George Stanger
on Wednesday also reduced the list
of those who have been associated with
the material work of local authority
in Charters Toners for some years.
The late Mr. Stanger migrated with
his wife and six children from York
shire, England, in 1908 and his first
job in the Charters Towers district
was with the Charters Towers City
Council as woodcutter and stacker for
the waterworks. After many years
service with the City Council he re
signed his position and became a
labourer for the Dalrymple Shire
Council with the road gangs, subs
sequently rising to the position of fore
man in which capacity he served that
Council until he entered hospital
several months ago. He leaves a
widow, six sons, four daughters and
eleven grandchildren.
