Our Mirani correspondent writes :
— On Saturday last. April 28. there
passed away an old and respected
resident of Mirani in the person of
Mr. Henry Rowe. Mr. Rowe had
been a resident, of Mirani district for
over 46 years. He was born at
Hendon, near London in the year
1855 and came out to Queensland by
sailing ship, landing at Maryborough
in 1808(?). From there he proceeded
to Rockhampton and thence to Mac
kay in 1882. Here he was married m
the year 1884. Mr. Rowe first came
to Mirani as gardener on the Hollow
Estates, then, owned by Messrs. Raw-,
son Bros.- He was the first to ex
periment in cane-growing in this
district, and later carried on cane-
farmnig at Hendon Yale, Mia Mia,
where he resided until almost six
years ago, when be retired and came
to spend the remainder of his years
in Mirani. He is survived by his
widow, four daughters (Mesdames C.
Kane, G. Williams, G. Ewart and
T. Rogers), and two sons (Messrs.
C. and H. Rowe); all of whom reside
in this district. The funeral moved
from the residence of Mr. C. Rowe
at 2.30 p.m. on Sunday, and the in
terment-took place at the Mirani
cemetery. Rev. Mr. McQuie officiat
ing. The pall-bearers were Messrs.
J. Thornton, E. Feltham. E. Llovd.
J. B.-Walmsley; C. Stevenson and
J. Lennox, and the funeral cortege
was one of the largest ever seen in
Mirani, testifying to the esteem and
respect in which the deceased gentle
man was held throughout the whole
district.

THE funeral of the late Alice Maud
Rowe, formerly of Mirani, relict
of Henry Rowe, and dearly beloved
mother of Charles, and Henry Rowe,
Mlrani, Mrs. G. F. Williams, Gargett,
Mrs. C. R. Kane, Owens Creek, Mrs.
J. G. Ewart, Sneyd Street, Mackay,
and Mrs. H. T. Rogers, Pleystowe,
will move from the funeral parlour,
Alfred Street, this day, at 10 a.m., to
the Mirani West Cemetery. The fun-
eral service will commence at 9.50
a.m. Friends will please accept this
intimation and invitation.
