DEATH OF HARRY MENZIES.
It is with deep regret that we record
the death of Henry Gustave Menzies,
which occurred. some time on Thurs
day, night last It appears that deceas-
ed who had been working at the Salt
Works for two weeks, left his work at
2 p.m. on Thursday to attend some
business and at about 5 o'clock a man
named Sid Long, met him and they
drove together to the Strand Hotel,
where they; had a few drinks together.
Deceased complained of having a very
bad cold and at about 7 o'clock went
outside and started to vomit and col
apsed on the footpath. He had his
senses about him but could not walk.
.At about 10 minutes to 8 o’clock Long
got two men nameded Ryan' and Tad
euci to assist him and they wanted to
put deceased to bed at the hotel. He
asked them to put him round near the
horse in the stable and said he would
go home later, which they did. He
was found at a quarter past six o'clock
yesterday morning and had been dead
for about 8 hours - A post mortem ex
amination was held at the Hospital
morgue by Hr. Kelsey, on behalf of Hr.
Gillies, Government, Medical Officer,
in the prescence of Constable Bauer,
who was investigating the case, and
found that- death was due to pneumon
ia and heart trouble. The funeral
took place at 4.30 p.m. yesterday. De
ceased, who was 42 years of age, was
a respectable good living highly intelli
gent man, and well liked by all who
knew him. He served with the Aus
tralian Expeditionary Forces in New
Guinea early in theWorld War and
later, volunteered for service with the
A.1.F., but had proceeded as far as
South Africa when the War ended.
He leaves a wife and 7 children, aged
from 2 to 12 years, also an aged moth
er, Mrs. Dutton, who resides in Bowen,
and an only brother, John, who resides
in Sydney, to mourn their great loss.
He was the eldest son of the late
Charles Meizner of, Bowen and the
Upper Don River.
