DEATH OF MRS J. P. CALLAHAN.
Another very old and respected resident
in the person of Mrs Callahan, wife of J.
P. Callahan, late of Hawthorn, Euri
Creek and latterly resident near Don
Station, Bowen, passed away on Good
Friday, at the Kennedy Hospital, at the
age of ,68 years, the cause of death being
heart trouble. Deceased, who had resided
in the district since the early days, was
very well and favaurably known, more es
pecially by the older residents. The fun
eral took place from the E. C. Church at
4 o’clock on Saturday afternoon, Eev.

rites at the graveside. She leaves a hus
band and a grown up family of one son
and two daughters to mourn their loss.

DEATH OF AN OLD RESIDENT
Another link with the past has been severed by the death of a very old resident in the person of John Patrick Callahan, who passed, away suddenly on Tuesday morning last, at the residence of his son-in-law and his daughter, Mr and Mrs 0. Nicol, Don River. He had eaten his breakfast as usual and went on to the verandah to have a smoke and to play with the children as was his
usual custom and suddenly expired, holding his pipe in his hand.
He had passed the, allotted span, being, over seventy years of age.
"Johnny" Callaghan, as he was familiarly called was one of the
pioneers of the Bowen district, having been engaged in carrying in the earlier days. He kept the hotel at Euri Creek (25-mile) for many years and sold out and retired several years ago residing at Hawthorn Euri Creek and afterwards at Wills Plain until the death of his wife about two years ago.
He leaves a grown-up family of one son and two daughters to mourn his loss. The funeral took
place on Wednesday afternoon, Rev Bather Morley (R. C. Church) performing the last sad rites at, the graveside.
