The City Coroner held an inquest yesterday at tho Lloyd Hotel touching the death of a married woman named Julia Elizabeth Leach, which occurred at North Sydney on the previous day. The evidence was to the effect that deceased resided with her husband in Lithgow-street, North Sydney. Lately she has been suffering from illness, and was attended by Dr. John Maffey. On the 27th instant the doctor decided that an operation was necessary, and attended on that date for the purpose of carrying it out. Dr. John Maffey was assisted by his son, Reginald W. H. Maffey, who administered the chloroform. Deceased took the chloroform well. Ten minutes after commencing the administration of the anaesthetic deceased com menced to struggle. The mask was removed, but the pulse being good more chloroform was administered, when she commenced to struggle again. The administration of the anaesthetic was then discontinued. As the pulse was weakening strychnine was hypodermically administered. Deceased collapsed suddenly, and artificial respiration was attempted.
