DEATH OF AN OLD PORTONIAN.
Mr. Joshua Evans, an old resident of the
Port, died at his residence, Wilson-street,
Queenstown, on Tuesday morning, at the age
of 76, having for some years been invalided.
Mr. Evans was born in Cheshire, and arrived
in South Australia by the ship Condor in 1851.
During the fifties he made three visits to the
Victorian goldfields, but always returned to the
Port. He became the manager of the shipping agency
business of the late Mr. R. M. Tapley, which
he afterwards conducted on his own account.
About 13 years ago be retired from commercial
life and visited England. Mr. Evans was at
one time chairman of the Alberton and Queens-
town District Council, and was also on the
committee of the Port Adelaide Building and
Investment Society. His remains will be in-
terred in the Woodville Cemetery to-morrow.

DEATH OF AN OLD PORTONIAN.
