Personal Notes:

Independent (Footscray) 29 March 1890 RAILWAY ACCIDENT AT YARRAVILLE. AN accident of a serious nature occurred at the Yarraville railway station on Wednesday evening, by which an unmarried man named Robert Orr, 20 years of age, narrowly escaped losing his life. As the half-past six passenger train from Williamstown was drawing up to the platform, Orr attempted to cross the line immediately in front of the engine. The brakes were immediately applied, but the man was knocked down, and sustained terrible in juries by the train passing over him, completely severing the right foot, besides inflicting other severe injuries to the head and body. The victim was at once taken to the hospital, where, on admission, it was found that he had susained a compound fracture of the skull, and the injury to the leg, the limb being amputated above the ankle by Dr-Bird. Orr was employed at Buchanan's iron foundry. Yesterday he was still living, but in a very low condition and his recovery is extremely doubtful.
