An accident occurred at the Kensington railway station yesterday morning, which resulted In the death of a signalman, named Edward Browning Couche. Couche had been on night duly, and intended to leave the Kensington station for his home at Newmarket by the 8.7 a.m. down train. He endeavoured to get into the van as the train was moving out of the station, but he slipped and fell between the van and the platform, and some of the wheels passed over him. The accident was witnessed by several of the officials, and Mr. Brown, the stationmaster, immediately sum moned Dr Shuter. That gentleman at once saw that the case was a very serious one, and he accompanied Mr Brown, who procured a conveyance. and removed the sufferer to the Melbourne Hospital. Before he reachcd the institution the patient was dead. One of his arms was shockingly mangled, and he had also sustained fracture of the skull and other injuries.The deceased was 23 years of age, and unmarried. His father is a sergeant of police at Yarrawonga. An inquest will be held this morning.
