SANDON. A fatal accident happened at the Prince Edward gold mine at Eganstown on Tuesday last at 10 a.m., by which two well-known local men, named William Mezzini and Robert Height lost their lives. Both men were employed at the mine working underground, and at the time of the accident were both engaged in extending the 300ft level south. It appears that after firing a shot in the face the two unfortunate men proceeded back to their work and had no sooner arrived there when the roof of the drive, which must have been shattered by the shot from the face to a distance of about 15ft back, and weighing altogether about 20 tons, came crashing down on top of them. There appears to have been two falls, Mezzini being knocked down and buried under the first fall, and Height appears to have been caught by the leg by the first fall, and in trying to scramble out over the top of the first lot, was caught and buried under the second fall, and about 3ft higher up in the debris than Mezzini. Both young men were well known and respected in this district, and are both married. Mezzini leaves a young widow and no family, MIZZENI.— On 26th March, at Eganstown, WILLIAM, the dearly beloved husband of LILY MIZZENI. MARRIAGE. MIZZENI— HOUSE.— On the 10th of February, 1900, by the Rev. Alexander Stewart, of Essen- don, WILLIAM, second son of MAURICE MIZ- ZENI, of Campbelltown, to LILY, second daughter of JAMES CHARLES HOUSE, of Sandon. |
