WILLIAM MILBURN (1866 - 1945)
AND
MARGARET MARIA THERESA MILBURN (1867 - 1927)
Englishman, WILLIAM MILBURN, arrived in Maryborough, Queensland, upon the Barque “Scottish Hero” in 1885. He wed MARGARET O’CONNOR in 1887 who, history would have it, travelled from Ireland upon the same vessel.
They lived for a time at Pentland and Selheim before settling in Home Hill in 1912. As Milburn and Sons, they leased a parcel of land from John Drysdale for the growing of sugar cane. The first meeting of the Inkerman Farmers’ and Graziers’ Association was held beneath a gum tree on their farm. The Block was freeholded in 1921. They raised 13 children - Robert, Edward, Norah, William, James, Jack, Margaret, Hannah, Timothy, Thomas, Sidney, Elinor and Theresa. Two grandchildren continue to farm the family holding. |
