Personal Notes:
The son of John and Sarah nee Edwards Shinfield, Richard married Oatey nee Britton on 19 Sep 1828 in St. Mary's Church, in Feltwell, Norfolk, England, In 1849 Richard and Oatey, with their 4 (four), children, John, Robert, Richard, and Ellen, emigrated to the colony. Traveling as assisted immigrants the family arrived in Port Jackson on 12 Feb 1849 on the ship "Walter Morrice". Following their arrival, they then boarded the ship "Bermondsay" and sailed down the NSW coast to Twofold Bay where they had obtained employment with Benjamin Boyd, on his properties in the Monaro district. ( According to the shipping papers their surname was spelled Shinkfield)

Richard and Oatey had 9 (nine), children, John, Elizabeth (1832- 1842), Robert, Richard, Ellen, Britane (1846-1846), Sarah (1848-1848), Sarah Anne, and Mary Anne.
