Personal Notes:

Teacher: Cloncurry (State School), releaving teacher in Gulf Country schools, Mackay High School, Mt Morgan Deputy-principal: Indooroopilly Principal: Murgon, Beenleigh, Caboolture, Bremar (Ipswich) Gained his degree by external studies while at Cloncurry. Taught navigation to pilots in WW2. Pilot Officer with service Number 277401. Discharged 17 jan 1946. Born and educated in Charters Towers, He excelled a a student and in the sports field. Attended Teachers Training College in Brisbane and graduated as a Primary Teacher, serviing in several schools in Queensland before obtaining his B.A. while living in Cloncurry. After several years he was promoted as Deputy Principal to Mt Morgan, Indooroopilly And Balmoral. Then as Principal to Murgon, Beenleigh, Caboolture and lastly Bremer High School in Ipswich, from where he retired in 1976. He and Mavis moved to Strathpine to spend a well earned retirement, but sadly he passed away suddenly the following year. He taught Maths to the Air Training Corps during the war years in Mackay. Also English to the incoming migrants after the war through the Adult Education. Daily Mercuty Mackay 30 Nov 1948 Mr. W. A. Bell For Conference Mr. W. A. Bell, of the Mackay State High School, has been elected as Mackay delegate to the 1949 Teachers' Union Conference to be held in Brisbane in January. Three nominations were received for the position of delegate and a ballot was necessary. The successful candidate was announced at a meeting of the Mackay and District branch of the Teachers' Union' on Friday night. The secretary of the Mackay branch (Mr. A. Morrison) said yesterday the meeting was very well attended to hear the results of the poll which was very heavy. Mr. Bell was ejected by a large majority, Mr. Morrison said. Members engaged in lively , discussion on the proposed superannuation scheme and on the proposal to increase union fees. Townsville Daily Bulletin 19 Jan 1955 Mr. W. A. Bell, of Mackay State High School staff has been appointed deputy principal of Mt. Morgan High School.
