Personal Notes:
Although he was the fifth son, William George 1850 has been left to last as much more is known about his life. Family legend says he graduated from the University at Bath and though a precise date of arrival in Australia is unknown, it was late 1860s or early 1870s. At Maryborough in 1874 he married Mary MAXWELL who died without issue in the same year.
When William married 19-year-old Hannah RAYSON on 08 Feb 1878 at St Mary's Anglican Church, Kangaroo Point in Brisbane, his occupation was shown as Government Agent. At least two descendants of Jane's brother George were married in the lovely old church high on a cliff overlooking the Brisbane River - Jean, granddaughter of Dr George Elworthy and Fiona Logan, great-great-grand daughter of James Elworthy.
Born at Bedworth, Leicester on 01 Feb 1859 Hannah came to Australia in 1863 with her mother and stepfather, Susannah and William MARSTON who then lived at Boggo, South Brisbane.
Poor Hannah was only 31 - and seven months pregnant when she died on 08 Dec 1890. Hannah was buried at South Brisbane Cemetery where a verse on her tombstone read ...
She is gone but not forgotten,
Never shall her memoryfade;
Sweetest thoughts shall ever linger,
Around the spot where she is laid.

It was 13 years before William, aged 53, married a third time, to Rachel CORDEROY in 1903 but there were no children of this marriage. Although Rachel survived William, her eventual fate is unknown.
William was a commission agent at Crown Street in South Brisbane. Family legend says he was a blackbirder who went to the Pacific islands to recruit Kanakas for labouring gangs but there is no actual evidence of this. When William died of heart failure on 13 May 1926 his occupation was shown as commercial traveller. He is buried with Hannah and although they did have a headstone, it is not there now. The great flood of 1976 is believed to have washed it away!

William may have arrived in Queensland as an able seaman on the Queen of the Colonies or the St. James, about 1874.
