Personal Notes:
David was the eldest of 10 children. He and five of his siblings died of Tuberculosis. His widow changed her surname (and that of their surviving son) by Deed Poll to her maiden name Hughes in 1917. It was best not to be associated (even if only by descent) with Germans in WW I. Brother-in-law Sam Drummond , of 'Yirri' Lockhart, assisted with their son's upbringing,
