DEATH OF MR. EDWD. BRENNAN
On Monday last, at 6 p.m., Mr. Edward Brennan, second son of the late Mr. James Brenan, of "Eurobin," Gocup, was gathered to his fathers, at the ripe age of 64 years. The primary cause of death was melancholia, for which he had been treated by Drs. Mason and Browne. Deceased was born at Money Money, near Gobarralong, and with his Father, mother and other members of his family came to Gocup in the sixties, and settled on "Eurobin," their first acquisition under the Robertson Land Act. His father and mother predeceased him many years ago, and he and his brothers carried on the old home together for a time. Then Mr. Martin Brennan went to Yanco and selected afresh, and Mr. Lawrence Brennan to Wee Waa, in the Narrabri district. Mr. E. Brennan was for years a member of the Local Land Board, and was later succeeded by the late Mr. Richard Rivers. He was a man of strong personality, ever noted for his probity and fair dealing, a kind, thoughtful and sincere friend, whose principal object was the social uplifting of his fellowmen. In politics he was a Trojan in defence of his principles and a Protectionist to the backbone. He successfully carried on the business of a grazier, was a large and always successful exhibitor at our local Show, of which he was an ardent supporter, and he filled with honor his place as a true citizen, until calamity came upon him in the disastrous bush fires that raged round Tumut in 1905. At that time he remained for hours on the roof of his dwelling, any moment expecting it would catch fire, and the loss of the residence was so narrowly averted that the nerve tension was so over taxed that it resulted in a collapse of his mental faculties. One section of of the homestead dwelling, that occupied by his sisters, was entirely demolished. His medical advisers recommended change of scene and he was taken to Sydney and Melbourne, and seemed to benefit for a time; but his heart was in his old home and he would not be persuaded to stay away any longer. The subject of our obituary married Miss Frances Crowe, daughter of the late James Crowe, of Gobarralong, tha result of the union being one son James, and five daughters, Misses Susannah Agnes, Mary, Ilene, Phillis and Kathleen. These, with a sorrowing wife, two brothers Martin Brennan of Yanko, and Lawrence of Wee Waa) and four sisters (Mrs. Nicholas Potter, Sydney, Mrs. George Potter, Melbourne, and Misses Johanna and Mary Anne, Eurobin) to mourn the loss of a kind, true and affectionate father, a model husband, and a loving and trusty brother. Medical skill could do no more for him, neither could kind nursing and every home and family attention. He received the last solemn rites of his church and his end was peace. His remains, were interred on Wednesday last in the Roman Catholic portion of the new cemetery, to which a very large cortege in solemn procession wended their weary way. Mr. H. W. Hoad was the undertaker, and Rev. Father Butler, P.P., officiated at the grave. We tender the bereaved ones our deepest sympathy in their hour of gloom.
