MR. JAMES JOSEPH CROWE
The second last of an old pioneering family, James Joseph Crowe, third son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Crowe of Gobarralong, passed away at Tumut, on Friday last. The deceased had spent practically the whole of his life in the Gundagai and Tumut districts, following the call of the man on the land. At one time he owned what was known as "Stockdale" (now owned by G. Waugh and H. P. Carberry). Deceased belonged to a family of well-known cricketers, and back in 1889, eleven Crowes played eleven Carberrys, in a historic match at Gobarralong. Deceased who was In his 87th year, married Miss Catherine Wilson, of Tumut, who predeceased him about eight years ago, and they reared a family of six sons and five daughters. One of the daughters, Eileen, was with him through his illness, two others reside in Sydney, and one predeceased him. One son, Ernest, died on his return from the Great War, and the others who survive, are Jim (Gundagai), Arthur (Harden), Wallace (Bondo), Bertie, and Thomas (Deltroit). The only remaining member of the old Crowe family, is Cyrus, who was with deceased at the time of his death. Deceased's mortal remains were interred in the Catholic portion of the Tumut cemetery on Friday evening.
