COULD HAVE BEEN MAYOR. IF the ambitions of Cr. Henry Lynn Barnard had led him to aspire to the mayoralty of Kalgoorlie for the coming year, he would certainly have been elected to that office. If his business engagement had not prevented him from entering the field, he would have been the only starter. H.L.B. is a son of the late Mr. Barnard, the first Registrar (Director) of the Ballarat School of Mines, an institution that has turned out many brilliant men in the fields of industry. He acquired a smattering of metallurgy as well as going through the assaying course at that school. He then took up the full course of study to get a mine manager's certificate under the tuition of the late R. M. Sergeant. He indulges in various forms of recreation, but his chief delight is travel.
