Personal Notes:
DEATH OF MRS. MICHAEL QUIRK
It is with regret we (Gundagai Times) record the death of Mrs. Michael Quirk, at the advanced age of 87 years. She had been a victim to paralysis for some months and succumbed to a change for the worse at noon on Sunday last, surrounded by her dearest friends and relatives. The funeral, which took place on Monday, was one of the largest and most representative ever seen in the district. The burial service was read by the Rev. Father Ryan.

The late Mrs. Quirk was a native of Tipperary, Ireland, having arrived here in 1841. By her death there is removed from our midst one of the connecting links of the past, when those rough experiences which were associated with the early pioneering days had to be encountered in the struggle for existence.

The late Mr. and Mrs. Quirk settled down at Darbalara. They were there when that little community was surrounded by the memorable flood of 52, and it was only at the greatest peril that Mr. Quirk succeeded in rescuing all that were there. They afterwards took up their abode on the Adjunbilly with their young family, where Mr. Quirk lived until the time of his death, some ten years ago, and from this place all the family are comfortably settled down within a comparatively small radius. Mrs. M. Quirk had since lived with her son, Mr. T. Quirk.

The deceased was the mother of eight children, six of whom survive her, and she left a large number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
