OBITUARY MRS. HARRIET QUIRK The death of Mrs. Harriet Quirk, of Wagragobilly, which occurred on Monday afternoon of last week, breaks a link with the early days of the Gundagai district. Widow of the late Michael Quirk, the deceased was 84 years of age at the time of her death. For some considerable time deceased had been in ill-health, and was a patient in the Gundagai Hospital on several occasions. The end came peacefully at her old home, now the residence of her son, James. During the last few weeks deceased was nursed by her daughters and grandchild, (Miss Theresa Holt). The late Mrs. Quirk was revered by all who knew her. A lover of home life and a deeply religious woman, her friends were legion. Born at Gundagai, deceased spent her entire lifetime in this district. She was a daughter of Gundagai's first gaolkeeper (Mr. Walsh). She was one of a family of seven children, but only one brother survives. Wagragobilly's grand old lady reared a family of seven children, who are left to mourn the loss of a devoted mother. The surviving children are James, Cyrus, Michael (sons), Mrs. A. Holt (Wagragobilly); Mrs. Reuben Arentz and Mrs. W. Arentz (Tumut) and Mrs. Don McInerney (Gundagai). The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon, when many people attended to pay their last tributes to one who had always been held in the highest esteem. Deceased's mortal remains were laid to rest in the Catholic portion of the village cemetery, Rev. Father McPhillips reading the last-prayers at the graveside.

GOLDEN WEDDING Last Saturday night week Mr. and Mrs. M. Quirk, of Wagra, celebrated their golden wedding, being fifty years married. There was a happy gathering of about fifty friends and relatives, who bestowed congratulations; on the much-respected couple. Dancing and singing was indulged in and the cup of merriment was full to overflowing. At 12 o'clock the guests sat down to a sumptuous breakfast. The choicest of everything was there, including a very pretty wedding cake. And much credit is due to Mrs. W. Arentz for the way she carried out her part in connection with the breakfast. She was assisted by her other sisters. Mr. E. Hargreaves filled the chair and proposed the toast of the bride and bridegroom of 50 years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Quirk, everyone singing "They are Jolly Good Fellows." Many other speakers spoke to the toast, and a jolly time was spent, Mr. and Mrs. Quirk received many very nice and valuable presents. Dancing was afterwards resumed until about 3 a.m., when the happy gathering broke up by singing "Auld Lang Syne," encircling Mr. and Mrs. Quirk, who were seated on two easy chairs in the centre of the floor. This concluded one of the happiest gatherings one could really wish to attend.
