Our late brother, the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Oates, Mayor and Mayoress of Wagga was born in Guyra on the 28th June, 1894. During a brief residence at Glen Innes when quite a lad, he had the misfortune to accidentally injure his throat. This injury proved to be a serious handicap through life.

Early in years he came with his parents, brothers and sisters to reside in the Riverina. He passed through our Sunday School and continued to be associated with the church. For seven months before the end came, in spite of all that medical science and human love could do, the young men's sufferings were almost unbearable. These trials were borne with Christian patience, fortitude, and optimism. He entered into rest on Wednesday; 18th

October. The funeral on the 19th was one of the largest and most impressive in the history of the Community.
