The Tumut and Adelong Times (NSW : 1864 - 1867; 1899 - 1950) Thu 16 Dec 1915 Death of Mrs. Hurle. We briefly referred in our last issue to the above sad event, but by a misprint gave the name of Mrs. Hearne instead of Hurle. Deceased, who belonged to distinguished parentage in the old country, left England with her brother, Mr.Thomas Brocklebank, 40 years ago, bound for Australia. They settled down at Yarrangobilly, and remained there until the brother died, 14 years ago. She then, with her husband (Mr. James Hurle) removed to Ferndale, Gilmore, where they purchased a fine property. After being there for eight years the husband died (full particulars were given by us at the time), and the widow continued to reside there until with- in a couple of days of her death. She then showed signs of a breaking up of the system, and was brought by her son, Mr. Jas. Hurle, to the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Pether, where Dr. Clouston attended the patient, doing all in his power to prolong life. An unexpected turn took place, however, early on Sunday morning, and death intervened before the doctor could be summoned to her aid, her end being that of peace and tranquility. Deceased was of a truly Christian disposition, and was highly respected and esteemed by all acquaintances, as shown by the fact that every house on the Gilmore was represented at the funeral, as a means of showing respect to the memory of the departed one. In the cortege there were 40 vehicles, all well laden. The remains were interred in the Anglican portion of the old cemetery, beside those of the departed husband. The body was first taken to All Saints' Church, where prayers were read by the rector, Rev. Burgess, and as the funeral moved away the bell was tolled for a few minutes. Mr. Burgess completed the service at the graveside, and Mr. Jas. Elphick carried out the funeral arrangements in his usual appropriate manner. We extend sincere sympathy to the members of the family over the sad bereavement that has taken place. |
