MR. JOHN HALE Mr. John Hale, of the Gullies, Moonbah, passed away at the Cooma District Hospital on 12th inst, at the advanced age of 88 years, the cause of death being heart trouble. The burial took place at the Moonbah cemetery last Friday, in the presence of a large gathering, the service being conducted by the Rev. Father O'Connor, who also administered the last rites of the church. The pall bearers were Messrs Lovell Barry, Roy Woodhouse, Harry McGufficke, and Amos Pendergast, Wreaths were from Eddie Des and Reta, Tom Lizzie Cottie and Nellie, Kate and Dave, Grandchildren, Katie Billie Bubba and Gladys, Jack and Gladys, All at Lynwood. The deceased was the eldest son of the late William Hale of Liverpool, N.S.W., where he lived for 14 years, four years subsequently he spent at Crackenback, and since that time has resided at Moonbah. He was twice married, his first wife being Sarah, the second daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Pendergast of Moonbah, their family consisting of Thomas of Botany, George of Queensland, and Mrs David Spencer of Moonbah His second marriage was with Mrs. Blyton, a widow, there being no issue. The deceased was for a time a carrier in the pioneering days, and made trips to Sydney and Merimbula. He was also a jockey, and at various southern courses rode for Messrs. Barry, Thompson and Kiss at race meetings at Cooma, Bega, and various other centres. He had a lengthy experience on the turf and rode in races till he was over 60 years of age.
