“OBITUARY
MRS. W. G. PROWSE
After a short illness, the death oc
curred in Welwyn Private . Hospital
about 11 o'clock last night of Mrs.
Letitla Prowse, aged 70 years, wife of
Mr. W. G. Prowse, of 65 Best-street,
Wagga. Only daughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs. F. Treweek, of Bethungra,
Mrs. Prowse was born at that town
ana spent her early life there.. Fifty
three years ago she married Mr. Prowse
at Adelong, and they lived at 'Green-
view,' Adelong, until 14 years ago, when
they came to live in retirement in
Wagga. Few people were better known
around Adelong than Mr. and Mrs.
Prowse, where they were among ,the
early pioneers of that district. Mrs.
Prowse played her part as the stal
wart wife of a pioneer, while her hus
band Interested himself in many acti
vities, having as their aim the welfare
of the district. Her interest was centred
in the up-bringing of her family, but
she also displayed an active interest in
the affairs of the Adelong Methodist
Church, in which she 'was associated
with every movement. Coming to
Wagga 14 years ago, Mrs. Prowse did
not assume inactivity in her retirement,
but with an enthusiasm that was re
markable, threw in her lot with the
Wagga Methodist Church. All the
women's associations of that Church
had her active co-operation, and in
addition, she took an interest in the
Red Cross Society and the Benevolent
Society. Of a cheerful and charitable
disposition, Mrs. Prowse was known
for her many acts of kindness, and
there are many living to-day who have
Mrs. Prowse to thank for courtesies
and aids which gave them encourage
ment and help to go forward. In addi
tion to her husband, she is survived by
five sons, Messrs. James, Bert, and
Stanley (Wagga), Harold (Oura), who
Is deputy president of the Mitchell
Shire Council and president of the
Wagga branch of the Farmers and
Settlers' Association, and William
(West Maitland), and one daughter,
Letitia (Mrs. C. Hill, of Yass). There
are also four brothers, Messrs. Sydney
Treweek (Grahamstown) , James and
Stace (Junee), and Frank (Perntree
Gully, Victoria), a large number of
grandchildren and five greatgrand
children. In addition ' there is one
adopted son, Mr. Clarence ('Charlie')
Melrose, of Tarcutta, and later of
Wagga. The funeral will take place
to-day, the cortege being appointed ta.
leave the Wagga Methodist Church at
3.30 o'clock this afternoon, following
a short service at 3.15, for the Method
ist portion of the Wagga cemetery.
