Note 9: Burial info Australia, Death Index, 1787-1985 Name Edward Robertson Cunningham Death Date 20 Nov 1892 Death Place Queensland Registration Date 1892 Registration Place Australia Father Edward Robertsen Cunningham Mother Caroline Sharp Hann Registration Number 004042 Page number 5834 North Queensland Register (Townsville) 30 Nov 1892 A correspondent at Ayr sends us the following:-Edward Cunningham, son of the owner of Woodhouse and other cattle stations, was found dead on Thursday. It is thought that the young man came by his death through an accident, as he was found lying with a gun by his side. On examina tion it was found that the shot had gone through the eye, and that death must have been instantaneous. The police were com municated with, and the body brought into Ayr by them for burial. One strange feature in the matter is that two blackboys saw the body on Tuesday, but did not make the matter known till Thursday. Mr Howard Haywood, the well-known traveller and lecturer, has been on a visit to Ayr and sur rounding districts: he did not, however, visit the sugar plantations, having already visited many in other parts of the colony.

Note 10: Burial info Northern Register (Townsville) 21 Nov 1898 Very sincere and general regret (says the "Townsville Star,") was ex pressed on Saturday when the sad news of the death of Mr. Edward Cun ningham was made known in Towns ville. The deceased was a fine speci men of the North Queensland pioneer, and possessed hosts of friends through out this great territory. Mr. Cunning ham arrived in Northern Queensland in 1803, being one of the first white men here, and he took up the Burde kin Downs station, one of his cattle camps being on the site of the present Charters Towers goldfield. Later on he took up the Woodhouse run, and the Burdekin Delta sugar plantations are now upon part of his original sta tion. Mr. Cunningham experienced all the ups and downs of the pioneer of settlement, and was in recent years one of the severest sufferers from the disastrous tick plague. His death re moves from amongst us a man of the stamp we can ill afford to lose. He leaves a widow and several children. The eldest daughter is Mrs. A. T. Clerk, the second is Mrs. Joseph Ahearne, and the third Mrs. Potier, junr.
