Death of Dr. W. S. Byrne.
News has been received in Brisbane of
the death in Johannesburg, South Africa,
on June 27, of Dr William Samuel
Byrne. The late Dr. Byrne carried on
his profession in Brisbane for many years,
and was well known in musical circles as
one of the ablest pianists and amateur
musicians of the metropolis. He was at
one time president of the Johnsonian
Club, and had held prominent positions in
Masonic circles. About ten years ago he
left Brisbane. At the time of his death
he was between 60 and 70 years of age.

LATE MRS. W. S. BYRNE.
The funeral of the late Mrs. W. S.
("Auntie") Byrne, widow of the late Dr.
W. S. Byrne, took place yesterday to the
Toowong Cemetery from her late residence,
Pelcho, Moreton-street, New Farm. Ser
vices at St. Michael and All Angels'
Church, New Farm, and at the graveside
were conducted by the Rev. Canon W.
Thompson, who referred to the fine ideals
and beautiful life of the late Mrs. Byrne.
Many beautiful floral tributes from rela
tives and friends in Queensland and the
other States were received.
