Benalla Ensign (Benalla) 14 March 1947
MR. ALEXANDER WILLIAM BALLINTINE Following indifferent health for some considerable time, the death occurred at "Rosemore" Private Hospital on Wednesday morning last of Mr. Alexander William Ballintine at the age of 46 years. Deceased was a son of the late Thomas and Ellen Ballintine of Upotipotpon, where he was born. He carried on farming pursuit in the district up to a few months ago when, owing to ill-health, he was compelled to retire, and came to live privately in Benalla. During his residence in the district, he worked hard for its advancement, and was actively associated with all forward movements. For many years he was a councillor of the Violet Town Shire Council, and while occupying the presidential chair was compelled to retire owing to health reasons. He possessed a bright and pleasing personality and made a host of friends wherever he went. He was generous to a degree, being always ready to help those in need, and his death will be a distinct loss to the district where he was an outstanding personality. He was married at Benalla 17 years ago to Miss Elma J. Smith, who survives him, as well as a family of one son John, and two daughters, Aileen and Lorraine, for whom sincere sympathy is felt in their great lose. Brothers and sisters of deceased are Ellen (deceased), Thomas (Goomalibee) and Jessie (Mrs F. Brown). The funeral left St. Andrew's Church, Benalla yesterday afternoon for the Benalla, cemetery following a service by Rev. Allistair McLean, who also officiated at the graveside. It was one of the largest funerals seen for come time, and testified to the high esteem n which deceased was held in the district.
