Note 1: James Allen Penn (Bachelor, Full Age, of St George Parish, son of William Penn, Mariner) married firstly Frances Dewell (Spinster, Full Age, of St Leonards Parish, daughter of Robert Dewell, Labourer) on 10 Apr 1853 at the parish church, St Leonard, Deal, Kent, England. (James signed, Frances made her mark) [8] [9]

Note 2: James Penn arrived in South Australia in 1855, after landing on 1st January at Melbourne, Victoria, on the ship "Carntyne" with his wife, Frances, their daughter, Frances, and other family members.[10] Then they traveled on the ship "Havilah" to Adelaide, South Australia, with the assistance of Frances' uncle, James Phillis.
