widow of the late William Kent, aged 85
years.

KENT.—On the 15th instant, at "Nara," Mon-
tague-road, John Charles Kent, aged 66.

Mr. John Charles Kent, ex-Collector for
Customs in Queensland, died on Monday,
and his remains were laid to rest in the
South Brisbane Cemetery on Tuesday.
The late Mr. Kent was an unassuming,
courteous gentleman, one who always
carried out his duties in a conscientious
manner He was born in Brisbane in
1850, and attended public schools, and
finished his education at the Rev Mr
Shaw's private school at Wickham
Terrace He joined the Customs Depart-
ment on January 1, 1867 and by diligent
work, rose to be Collector of Customs in
Queensland, to which position he was ap
pointed on August 4, 1910. Mr Kent
retired on a pension on December 31,
1912. One of his hobbies was yachting
He was a member of the Brisbane Yacht
Club, and, with Mr H Macintosh, of
the Lands Department, was part owner of
the boat Nara, his home at Montague
road, South Brisbane, bearing the same
name
