Note 5: Reg No 1901/1893 - age 73 - Jas Saml and Penelope Baynes see notes The Argus (Melbourne) 12 Jan 1893 DEATHS CONRAN -On the 10th inst, at his residence Barrabool house, Highton, Lieut Colonel Lewis Charles Conran aged 72 The Leader 14 Jan 1893 Colonel Conran, another old colonist, died rather suddenly at his residence, Highton, this morning. Early in the forties he arrived in Norfolk Island as a captain in the 40th Regiment. He subsequently went home, and after doing service in Canada was installed as Colonel of the 7th Hants Regiment of volunteers in England. He acted as aide-de-camp to Sir Charles Latrobe when that gentleman was Governor of the colony, and was the first sergeant-at-arms in the parliament of Victoria.
