Mr. Henry Joseph Roche
(Harry) died last week-end.
Mr. Roche, who was 44, had
spent most of his life as a
sugar grower, at Owens
Creek. He was born in Mac
kay; his father, Mr. Tom
Roche was one of the Mackay
district's earliest pioneers
About eight years ago Mr
Harry Roche moved to the
city and during the early part
of 1950 conducted a taxi ser
vice. Mr. Roche Is survived
by his widow and two sons.

died at the weekend
was well known in
sugar growing circles.
Mr. Roche, who was 44,
had spent most of his life
as a sugar farmer at Owen's
Creek.
A native of Mackay, he
was the son of the late Mr.
Tom Roche, one of the dis-
trict's earliest pioneers.
Sportsman
A keen follower of all
sport, Mr. Roche was a keen
supporter of Bucas Football
Club. All senior Bucas play-
ers wore black arm bands
during the main game on
Sunday, and the crowd ob-
served one minute's silence
in memory of Mr. Roche.
Hockey players at Harrup
Park on Saturday also ob-
served a minute's silence in
tribute to Mr. Roche.
Mr. Roche farmed at
Owen's Creek until about
eight years ago, when, for
health reasons, he moved to
the city. During the early
part of 1950 he conducted
a taxi service.
Mr. Roche is survived by
his widow and two sons, John
and James, of North Mac-
kay.
Church and graveside
funeral services were con-
ducted by Rev. Fathers B.
Cahill, P. Healion and T.
Dwyer.
Pall bearers were Messrs.
C. Roche, M. O'Neill, J.
O'Neill, R. Jarrett, A. Car-
riline. and M. Loughnane.
