Peter arrived in the colony on board the store ship General Graham as a free immigrant with his family.
They travelled to Windsor where Peter began a business as a blacksmith. https://australianroyalty.net.au/tree/purnellmccord.ged/individual/I55182/Phoebe-Stirrup Married 9 Jan 1835. Prior to his marriage, Peter trained as a blacksmith and travelled extensively during his early days to the newly found areas of the colony. He was recorded as being at Patricks Plains in 1825 and lived around Jerrys Plains and Muswellbrook in the early 1830s. By the year 1841 apparently Peter took off for Melbourne. |

Mr. Peter McAlpine, who lived in Victoria for 30 years and had been a resi dent of New South Wales for 51 years, died at Singleton on Friday, aged 89. He was born in Scotland. Windsor and Richmond Gazette 22 Oct 1898 A very old settler died at Singleton on Septem- ber 23, in the person of Peter McAlpin aged 89½ years. This hoary veteran and his brother, William McAlpin (18 months younger), who sur- vives him, arrived in N.S.W. as children in 1812. Their people settled on the Hawkesbury, and are related to the Onus family. Peter remembered Muswellbrook in 1825, and saw some "life" in the city of Melbourne in the '40's and '50's. There are few older colonists alive than William McAlpin, who resides at Bulga, near Singleton, and still actively attends to his farm. |
