Windsor and Richmond Gazette 22 Oct 1898
A very old settler died at Singleton on Septem-
ber 23, in the person of Peter McAlpin aged 89½
years. This hoary veteran and his brother,
William McAlpin (18 months younger), who sur-

Their people settled on the Hawkesbury, and are
related to the Onus family. Peter remembered
Muswellbrook in 1825, and saw some "life" in
the city of Melbourne in the '40's and '50's.
There are few older colonists alive than William
