On 12 Oct 1830 Phoebe applied for permission to marry Joseph Griffith of Waterloo, who was also assigned to Mr. Perry.
Nothing came of this application for on 12 Oct 1831 a son was born to Phebe [sic] Stirrup alias Elizabeth Harrison and baptised in March of that year at St Philips, Sydney.
The child was registered as both C.C. Stirrup and C.C. Harrison. It is not known whether Griffith fathered the child.

SINGLETON

Sydney Stock and Station Journal 27 Sept 1898
Mr. Peter McAlpine, who lived in
Victoria for 30 years and had been a resi
dent of New South Wales for 51 years,
died at Singleton on Friday, aged 89. He
was born in Scotland.

Windsor and Richmond Gazette 22 Oct 1898
A very old settler died at Singleton on Septem-
ber 23, in the person of Peter McAlpin aged 89½
years. This hoary veteran and his brother,
William McAlpin (18 months younger), who sur-
vives him, arrived in N.S.W. as children in 1812.
Their people settled on the Hawkesbury, and are
related to the Onus family. Peter remembered
Muswellbrook in 1825, and saw some "life" in
the city of Melbourne in the '40's and '50's.
There are few older colonists alive than William
McAlpin, who resides at Bulga, near Singleton,
and still actively attends to his farm.

Personal Notes:
Australian Royalty: Genealogy of the Coplony of NSW
Charles was described as a carrier living at Gundagai.
He would have transported goods from Merriwa to Muswellbrook either with bullocks or more probably with a horse & cart.
As a local he would have been well aquainted with James Turner and his wife Mary who ran the hotel.
After the death of James, Charles (as he would have been known) would have seized the opportunity to court the widow Mary Turner.
