The Age (Melbourne) 17 June 1935
Another link with the early days of the Victorian railways has been severed by the death of Mr. Joseph Pym Goode, George-street, Hartwell, which occurred on Friday. Mr. Goode, who was 81 years old, joined the railway service 64 years ago, starting as a telegraph oper ator at Spencer-street station, and was one of the first telegraph operators em ployed there. He became a station master about 1880, his first charge being Bealiba. In turn he was station mas ter at Werrlbee, Numurkah, Oakleigh, Serviceton, Warrnambool, Dimboola, Warragul, Kyneton and Castlemaine. He was well known throughout the State by the general travelling public. Mr. Goode retired from the railways when 59 years of age, and, though he lived to the fine old age of 81, the reason for his retirement twenty odd years ago was ill health. Mr. Pym Goode, senior officer in the office of the General Superintendent of Transportation of the Railway department, is a son. The late Mr. Goode's father was, in the early days, Deputy Registrar-General of Victoria. The remains were cremated at the Fawkner Crematorium on Saturday; there being a representative gathering, including many Masonic brethren and representatives of the Railway department.
