LATE "DICK" HOUSTON
Interesting memories of old times
were recalled to many Geelong people
by the announcement in Saturday's
issue of the death of Richard ("Dick")
Houston. He was a great cricketer and
footballer, and for many years captained
both North Melbourne teams. Besides
being a most capable exponent of both
sports, Houston was recognised as an
astute captain. In 1890 he came to
Geelong and took up a position as care-

OUITUARY.
A CRICKETER'S DEMIISE:
*.-Death- has claimed a once well
known cricketer, Richard Shin
nock Houston, at the age of 58.
His remains were interred in the
local cemete3ry on Tuesday. He
had been caretaker of the Morris
street cricket ground for some
time, and died on Sunday at the
local hospital, after an illness of
some duration. Previous to coming
to Williamstown, he had been
identified with the North Mel
bourne, Cricket Club. Represen
tatives of that club, the
Port Melbourne and Williams
town Cricket Clubs acted as
pall-bearers. Rev. F. Lynch offi
ciated at the graveside, and Mr.
E. W. Jackson had charge of the
mortuary :arrangements.
