Church the marriage of Margaret
Elizabeth, second eldest daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Herrigan, Glen-
ella, and Robert Frank, eldest son of
Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Hobbs, Owen's
Creek, was solemnised by Rev. R.
Bardon. Mrs. Chalk was organist, and
Miss Watson sang a solo during the
signing of the register. The bride
entered the church on the arm of her
father who subsequently gave her
away. She wore a gown of white chin
chilla georgette over taffeta, made in
early Victorian style with a shaped
neckline finished with a spray of
orange blossom and gathered down
the centre front with buttons and
loops trimming the well fitting back.
The long sleeves were finished with
peaks over the hands and a circular
skirt 'fell into a long train at the back.
She wore a full length embroidered
tulle veil arranged with a halo of
orange blossoms (kindly lent by her
sister-in-law, Mrs. W. Herrigan, jun).
Her circular bouquet of roses and
asters was tied with satin streamers.
Miss Muriel Herrigan (sister of the
bride) attended as bridesmaid. She
.Wore a frock of pastel blue figured
jorgandi, the bodice being trimmed
with pin tucks, and tiny pink bows.
She wore a full length, swing skirt and
her shoulder length tulle veil was
finished with a top-knot of blue and
pink rose buds. She wore elbow length
mittens to match and carried a bouquet of pink roses and blue asters. Mr.
W. Hobbs (brother of the bridegroom)
was best man. After the ceremony
the guests were entertained at the
Parish Hall. The table was tastefully
arranged in blue and pink, pride of
place being given to the nicely ornamented three-tier wedding cake.
Mrs. Herrigan, mother of the bride
wore a navy and white frock, a navy
straw hat, relieved with white, and
navy accessories. Mrs. Hobbs, mother
of the bridegroom, chose a frock of
black georgette trimmed with outwork
and relieved with cream, and a- black
straw hat trimmed with cream and
red. She carried a posy of cream and
red flowers. Later the happy couple
left for their home at Owen's Creek,
the bride travelling in a pink Swiss
organdi frock and dainty straw hat to
match. She added white accessories.

HENRY HOBBS, of Owen's Creek,
dearly beloved husband of Julia Edith
Hobbs, and beloved father of Bob and
Bill Hobbs and Mrs. Len Turner, will
move from Holy Trinity Church, Mac-
kay, THIS DAY at 2 p.m. to the
Mackay Cemetery. The funeral ser-

Mr. W. H.- Hobbs, ,
Owen's Creek

The passing of Mr. -William
Henry Hobbs; on February 9 at
the age of 73 years removed from
Owen's Creek one of its oldest
and most highly respected resi
dents. Mr. Hobbs was- born at
Burrisaune, Ireland, and went to
Western Australia in 1908. From
there he came to West Plane
Creek, near Sarlna, and in 1909
selected land at Owen's Creek. In
1910 he was married at Boldon.
Mrs. Hobbs also coming from the
old country Deceased was one
of the first to send cane over the
Pleystowe tramline from Owen's
Creek to Gargett. He was a very
active man, a hard worker, and
in his younger days took a keen
interest in district affairs, having
been secretary of the Owen's
Creek Railway Line Committee,
secretary of the Creek branch of
the old organisation prior to the
forming of the present UCGA, and
at different periods held the posi
tion of chairman and secretary
of the Owen's Creek School com
mittee. He was a good judge of
horses and was an accomplished
rider. He gained considerable ex
perience as a horse and cattle
dealer in Ireland and England
before coming to Australia.
One of a family of 13 he had
one brother in -Australia, Mr.
Robert Hobbs, of Tingoora, near
Klngaroy.
Deceased left a widow and two
sons— Robert, of Owen's Creek,
and William, of Ayr— a daughter,
Mrs. L. Turner, of Beatrice Creek,
and three grandchildren. Old
residents of Owen's Greek acted
as pall-bearers. They were Messrs
G. Brown, W. H. Soper, M. Reed-
man, C Kane, A. Lisk and J.
Chalmers.

A recollection by W.G.Hobbs (Bob's brother) - after the war Bob received a letter from someone on the farm in Ireland offering him the position of manager. He turned it down. Why this offer from so far away? Was the 'older brother' of the older generation dead? Were his sons not interested?
