Personal Notes:

Owen, the youngest of the family of three sons of James and Eliza, was born at the Andison home at Northgate in Brisbane and received his primary education at Virginia State School. Winning a State Scholarship, his secondary education was completed at Brisbane Grammar School from where he passed the Junior Examination.

At fifteen years ofage, Owen was employed in the shipping department of Thomas Brown and Sons of Brisbane, before taking up an accountancy career. He entered the Army in 1941, serving in New Guinea and Bougainville, and married while on leave in 1943.

On his discharge, Owen worked briefly in Brisbane and then on a Gayndah citrus orchard before again taking up his former profession for a time. The insurance industry then beckoned, and Owen found himself with an office in Toowoomba, working an area from Ipswich to Cunnamulla, and from Wallangarra to Bundaberg (where another office was eventually opened when the area was split), Brisbane being excluded. However, in 1966 Owen was promoted to the Brisbane Office, where he saw out his working life, retiring in 1981 at the age of sixty years.

Not liking the pressures ofcity life, Owen and Margaret moved into their Caloundra home on his fifty-flfth birthday, from where he commuted to Brisbane. Their main interests were fishing and travel, and their love for New Zealand resulted in many trips to that country and the for ging of friendships that resulted in reciprocal visits to Caloundra.

Owen and Margaret enjoyed two major holidays, the first being of six weeks duration and covered the Pacific and some countries on its rim. The second, ofalmost six months, involved a round-the-world tour beginning with a sea trip io England and coming home by air through America. Australia was not forgotten as Owen and Margaret travelled its length and breadth.

Owen is one of three surviving foundation members of the Caloundra Bowls Club and Margaret assisted him by being very active in its social activities. Sadly, she passed away on the day following their fifty-flfth wedding anniversary, leaving Owen and their daughter Ellen and her family grieving the loss of his life's companion and their mother and grandmother.
