The Tumut Advocate and Farmers and Settlers' Adviser (NSW : 1903 - 1925) Tue 28 Sep 1909
Death of Mrs Thomas McInerney
It becomes out sad and painful duty to record the death, at the age of 65 years, of Mrs M'Inerney, wife of Mr.Thomas M'Inerney, of Gilmore. The sad event occurred in Tumut on Sunday last at noon, at the residence of her brothers, Messrs John and Patrick Corry, with whom she had been residing for the last 6 weeks in the fond hope of recuperating her health, which for some time past had been failing. Her very sudden demise was a heavy blow to all her relatives, and particularly to her devoted husband, who little thought the end was so near. Mrs M'Inerney (nee Annie Corry) was born in County Clare, Ireland, in 1844, and came to New South Wales in 1865. Ten years later she married and the couple chose Gundagai for their vantage ground for 12 years and succeeded so well, by dint of hard perseverance and indomitable energy, as as to be enabled to acquire on the Gilmore the old Snubba homestead, formerly owned by Messrs M'Namara Bros. This they together improved and made it the pretty home it now is. Alas! that unhappy Fate should so decree a separation. By it, Gilmore will ever miss a dear friend, and an all-round adviser, her bereaved husband a true and faithful wife and boon companion, her children a mother affectionate and capable of attending to their best interests; and, hard though it be, 'tis better thus for each to say—
Though Thou hast caused me to resign
What most I prized—it ne'er was mine —
I only yielded what was Thine—
Thy will be done !
What though in lonely grief I sigh
For friends, beloved, no longer nigh,
Submissive would I still reply
Thy will be done
